Senator Barbara Boxer
Senator Barbara Boxer has represented California in both Congress and the Senate over the past 33 years. As a ranking member of the Environment and Public Works, Ethics, and Senate Foreign Relations Committees, she has championed environmental protection and women’s issues on the global stage. In her memoir, The Art of the Tough, she takes us from her childhood in Brooklyn to the often vexing political playing field in Washington, all the while underscoring her longstanding personal mantra: never compromise about doing the right thing. Boxer visits CHF to share her story on the eve of her retirement from a lifetime in public service. Senator Boxer will be in conversation with Elizabeth Brackett, correspondent for WTTW's Chicago Tonight.
This annual lecture honors the late Joanne H. Alter’s pioneering work on behalf of women interested in social action and public service.
