How does technology intersect with human knowledge?

In 2011, the Chicago Humanities Festival explored the intersection of technology and knowledge through the theme, tech•knowledgē. Just eight years later, and technology is an even more pervasive force in our everyday lives as the primary tool through which many people interact with work, friends, and communities near and far– American adults are spending 11 hours a day on screens. So how is this new era of immersion in technology affecting our brains? Our social practices? Our production and sharing of knowledge? From the creation of stone tools to the development of the printing press, the assembly line, and the microprocessor, technology is the expression of human ingenuity and an always-active agent of change. In thinking about “tech•knowledgē” as technology with knowledge at its center, we must ask: How can we use technology wisely? In what ways can we harness technology to tell our story and shape our identity? How is technology powerful?
