In 2006, when CHF took on the massive topic of Peace and War, it was just over five years since the United States had launched the first missiles against Afghanistan. Now the longest running war in American history, far surpassing the protracted conflict in Vietnam, there is still no clear end in sight. While the world has become more peaceful overall, we are plagued by intractable battles, from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, to the so-called ‘War on Drugs” in the U.S. and Mexico, from the still unsettled legacy of the American civil war to increasingly loud debates about the security of our borders. How do wars end? And what does peace look like?
