Policing Chicago: Effective Strategies for Reducing Crime
At the heart of the Chicago Police Department's efforts to reduce the city's murder rate is a set of ideas that aim to do more than just crack down on violence: they seek to fundamentally reshape the future of policing itself. Many of those ideas are rooted in the work of influential Yale University law professor and criminal justice scholar Tracey L. Meares. In partnership with the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics (IOP), Meares gives us her perspective on the realities driving violence and policing in Chicago—and why much of the popular discourse about Chicago's murder rate misses the mark. She is joined by Steve Edwards, deputy director of IOP and former WBEZ program host.
