The Passenger: A Recovered Opera
Mieczysław Weinberg’s "The Passenger" is one of the most stunning stories in opera history. Written in 1960s Moscow, it was suppressed by the regime because of its representation of the Holocaust, receiving its much-delayed world premiere only in 2010. Since then, it has quickly been recognized as one of the 20th century’s greatest works of art. Lyric Opera of Chicago Director Anthony Freud, himself the child of a Holocaust survivor, recounts his role in bringing this masterpiece to America’s stages. Joining him is Andrew Patner of 98.7 WFMT and the Chicago Sun-Times.
This program is presented in partnership with 98.7 WFMT.
