How Violent is Chicago?
Chicago is struggling with violent crime. Media coverage molds public perceptions and fans the flames of debate. But what is genuine, what is fear-mongering, and what do local youth have to say? In this program, we unpack some of the history and current realities for Chicago's teens. Panelists include Natalie Moore, WBEZ's South Side bureau reporter, and Lance Williams, professor at Northeastern Illinois University and assistant director of its Jacob C. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, as well as board president of the Lupe Fiasco Foundation. Together they are coauthors of the 2011 book "The Almighty Black P Stone Nation: The Rise, Fall, and Resurgence of an American Gang."
