Gwendolyn Brooks Centennial: Golden Shovel on Brook's "Children of the Poor"
In celebration of Chicago's most famous poet, Gwendolyn Brooks, the Chicago Humanities Festival is partnering with poets from The Golden Shovel Anthology, a compendium of inspired poems to celebrate her centennial year. The presentation will include a reading of Brooks' poem "Children of the Poor," along with performed original poetry from Brenda Càrdenas, Reginald Gibbons, and Janice Harrington, speaking on Brooks' influence in their lives and work. Peter Kahn, who launched the anthology, will moderate the conversation. This program is presented in partnership with Gallery Guichard and OMB100, an initiative supported by The Chicago Community Trust and Allstate in honor of Miss Brooks' legacy and her enduring contributions to Chicago all in efforts to inspire a new generation.
