Gabeba Baderoon: "The Silence Before Speaking"
Informed by her childhood in apartheid South Africa, her schooling in England, and her arrival in the United States, the poetry of Gabeba Baderoon charts a personal geography. Through her three collections, she bears witness to moments of loss and recognition, contemplating cultural displacement and encounter and conjuring new visions of the world she inhabits. Baderoon, a Pennsylvania State University professor, shares a reading and is joined in conversation by poet Parneshia Jones.
This program is presented in partnership with the Institute for the Arts and Humanities at Pennsylvania State University.
