Erika L. Sánchez: I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter
Poet, feminist, and a cheerleader for young women everywhere, Erika L. Sánchez comes to CHF to discuss self-determined identity, cultural expectations, and grief through her stunning, often laugh-out-loud funny young adult novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. Set in Chicago, the story centers on Julia as she attempts to understand her sister's life after her death. In a web of insecurity and complicated connections between those we love and those we are trying to impress, it's how we put together the fragments that reveals who we actually are.
