Consuming Animals: Rob Levitt & Tom Philpott
In this program, Mother Jones food and agriculture reporter Tom Philpott and Chicago chef/butcher Rob Levitt, owner of The Butcher & Larder, consider the most intimate way we relate to animals—eating them. Philpott, author of the award-winning blog "Food for Thought" and cofounder of Maverick Farms, an educational center dedicated to promoting family farming and sustainable food education in North Carolina, draws on his background as a financial journalist to ask and answer some tough questions: What are our ethical commitments to the animals we eat? How does modern factory-style meat production shape that relationship? How can we create a more humane and ethical relationship to meat that stops short of abstinence?
This program is presented in partnership with Mother Jones magazine.
