Censored! The First Amendment, Sex, and Obscenity
The notion that some forms of sexual imagery and expression are considered obscene and should be censored has long vexed American constitutional law. This panel examines the history of obscenity and the reasons for its regulation as well as contemporary issues ranging from child pornography to "sexting" and other expressions of sexuality in youth culture. Panelists include law professors Geoffrey Stone of the University of Chicago, Martin Redish of Northwestern University, and Amy Adler of New York University. Together they seek to stimulate debate and understand the role of sexual expression in American society.
