Winners Take All: A Conversation with Anand Giridharadas

About the Event:

Journalist and former New York Times correspondent Anand Giridharadas calls himself “a flamethrower, by temperament.” Here’s an example: As an invited fellow at the Aspen Institute (a gathering of thought leaders and philanthropists addressing global issues), Giridharadas delivered a keynote address that skewered the Aspen Institute itself, for “trying to market the idea of generosity as a substitute for the idea of justice.” Giridharadas has gone on to challenge the entire fabric of contemporary American corporate philanthropy, arguing that “‘Giving back’ is a Band-Aid that winners stick on the system that has served them.” Giridharadas joins us for a discussion of his new book Winners Take All and tell us what’s wrong with this model of making the world a better place.
