South Side Soul

About the Event:

For decades, some of America’s best soul music has come out of Chicago’s South Side neighborhoods. Now, three soul music experts come together to celebrate the history and influence of this storied musical tradition. Ayana Contreras, host of Vocalo Radio’s Reclaimed Soul; Ruben Molina, the DJ and historian; and DJ Tone B. Nimble, will join poet, radio host, and activist Mario Smith, for a conversation covering seminal moments in Chicago soul, as well a some lesser known histories, such as the influence of Mexican-American musicians on the music. Following the discussion, Contreras, Molina, and Nimble will have you embracing the power of South Side soul in a different way: dancing to their South Side soul DJ sets!

All attendees of this program are invited to stay for an afterparty with South Side Soul at 8:00pm.

South Shore Night recognizes the many contributions made to our community by The Chicago Community Trust. The evening is presented by the Trust in partnership with The Neighborhood Network Alliance and the Chicago Park District.
