Ren Weschler on the Legacy of Oliver Sacks

About the Event:

Few modern clinicians have made a larger impact on our understanding of the human brain than the late Oliver Sacks. Lawrence (Ren) Weschler, former artistic director of the Chicago Humanities Festival, returns to CHF to expand our understanding of Sacks himself. And How Are You, Dr. Sacks?, Weschler’s biographical memoir of his 30-year friendship with Sacks, covers the charismatic doctor’s struggles and successes in and out of the clinic. Packed with anecdotes both charming and profound, including the behind-the-scenes story of Sacks's award-winning book The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Weschler’s work reveals to us the powerfully curious and infinitely compassionate man who forever changed our conception of the mind and the self. Artist Riva Lehrer will join Weschler in conversation.
