Nikki Giovanni

About the Event:

Nikki Giovanni is one of America’s most celebrated poets. Her work, which has both drawn from and influenced the Civil Rights, Black Power, and Black Arts Movements, has been central to the cultural conversation since Giovanni first rose to prominence in the 1960s. A seven-time NAACP Image Award winner and a professor at Virginia Tech, Giovanni comes to CHF to read selected poems, including new works from her most recent collection, A Good Cry: What We Learn From Tears and Laughter, and, in conversation with CHF’s former Director of Programming Tiff Beatty, discuss her life, her work, and the indomitable power of the Black community.
