Chicago Neighborhood Check-In: Higher Education

About the Event:

Students heading back to college are preparing for an entirely different experience—and their respective institutions face a similar reckoning about their broader role. CHF brings together leaders from Kennedy-King College, Lake Forest College, and the University of Illinois at Chicago to discuss how they can serve as good neighbors when current crises require academic institutions to show up differently in their communities. Following recent shifts and disruptions in regular operations on and around campuses, this program looks at the untapped potential and unforeseen limitations of brick and mortar institutions in a time of virtual learning and increased need for localized resource sharing. CHF’s Marilynn Thoma Artistic Director Alison Cuddy moderates this program.

This program is presented in partnership with Kennedy-King College, Lake Forest College, and the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

This week's programs presented with the support of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.

[Event tile image description: The event image at the top left of the event page is an aerial photograph of people at desks sitting in a library. The room is circular with a brown ceiling and brown desks, each emanating out from a large circular desk in the center of the room, like sunbeams. The walls are white. There are three other floors above the room with the desks. The other floors have railings that look down into the main room. At the very top of the walls are a row of circular windows. The roof appears to be domed. Image credit: Unsplash.]
