About the Event:

Andrew and Kelsey McClellan operate Heart & Bone Sign, a sign-painting business in Chicago. In the summer of 2022, the McClellans and sign artists Bob Behounek and Robert Frese came together to save uncovered ghost signs in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. These signs were over 100 years old and were slated for demolition. But thanks to community support, they raised the funds to erect scaffolding on both sides of the building to safely remove and store the signs. Their independent publishing business, Heavy Pages Press, published The Golden Era of Sign Design: The Rediscovered Sketches of Beverly Sign Co., which provides an extensive look at the incredible sketches of Chicago’s preeminent outdoor sign company, Beverly Sign Co. Join Andrew and Kelsey McClellan in conversation with Tanner Woodford, the founder and executive director of the Design Museum of Chicago, as they share how their research led to an extensive collection of Beverly Sign Co. drawings that a young painter saved and preserved for over 50 years.
