Eric Klinenberg on Distance and Solidarity
About the Event:
The coronavirus is upending all sorts of social relations, from how we do our jobs, interact with the outside world, and maintain our relationships. New York University sociologist Eric Klinenberg is uniquely prepared to help us navigate these transformations, having written about previous crises in Chicago (Heat Wave), cultural trends towards living alone (Going Solo) and the significance of public space (Palaces for the People). Join Klinenberg and the Field Foundation’s Lolly Bowean for a livestreamed conversation about social solidarity, our collective responsibility to care for communities and whether, paradoxically, this pandemic might bring us all closer together.
Stay tuned for more programs about how the pandemic is impacting Chicago neighborhoods. Coming soon, we'll check in with artists, cultural workers, and local organizers about how Chicago neighborhoods are responding to the crisis.
