About the Event:

Since 2017, the Chicago-based Black chamber music collective D-Composed has pursued a mission to uplift and empower society through the music of Black composers. D-Composed creates classical music experiences that are inclusive and reflective of the Black experience. The group has also provided a new untraditional pathway into classical music for both artists and audiences. Comprised entirely of Black musicians, D-Composed exclusively plays the music of Black composers. In an intimate performance for the Chicago Humanities Spring Festival, the ensemble will continue to break down our preconceptions for how we define classical music.

Program:

  • Carlos Simon - Loop
  • Tomeka Reid - Prospective Dwellers
  • Jessie Montgomery - Breakaway I. Lilting II. Songbird
  • Ahmed Al Abaca - Our Stories (medley of D-Composed commissioned collaborations around storytelling)
  • Daniel Bernard Roumain - String Quartet No. 5 Parks I. Klap Ur Handz

This program is generously underwritten by the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation.
