How Cities Like Chicago Impact our Planet's Health

A Local View on the Climate Crisis

About the Event:

Over 80% of America’s population lives in metropolitan areas, and these crowded cities–including Chicago– directly impact the health of our planet. Join Chicago Humanities for a talk by Sabina Shaikh, (Senior Instructional Professor and Committee Member on Environment, Geography, and Urbanization at the University of Chicago), on the connection between human and planetary health and how nature based solutions may be the best option for healing our world. Following the presentation, Jill Riddel, host of the podcast The Shape of the World, leads a panel discussion with Dr. Erin Hagen, (Senior Director of the Keller Science Action Center at the Field Museum), Dr. Karen Murchie (Director of Freshwater Research at the Shedd Aquarium) and Seth Magle (Director of the Urban Wildlife Institute) on the critical work being done by local institutions to address the climate and biodiversity crisis both internationally and at home here in Chicago.
