Stages, Sights & Sounds | April 29 - May 16, 2010

Welcome to Stages, Sights & Sounds, presented by the Chicago Humanities Festival. I’m thrilled to introduce this year’s audiences to a collection of artists who have inspired me and who have inspired this festival to grow. This spring, a collector of nights, a melancholy superhero, and an incredible wooden cart all await you—among many other adventures.

When choosing artists to present, we always mix the best theater, music, dance, puppetry, and visual art the world has to offer with the best we have right here in Chicago. This year, three international companies make their Chicago debuts: Scotland’s Visible Fictions, Israel’s The Galilee Multicultural Theatre, and France’s Vélo Théâtre. Two Chicagoans, Frank Maugeri of Redmoon Theater and beatboxer/vocal percussionist Yuri Lane, treat us to brand-new work. At the audience’s request, we also welcome back Leah Mann and Ela Lamblin, the dynamic duo behind Lelavision, whose stunning physicality and musical sculptures made it the runaway hit of the 2008 festival.
